Subject: PowerPlay NYC's Summer Leadership Academy application (for girls)

Hi there,

Hope you're enjoying spring! As we head into March, I wanted to send a second email on behalf of PowerPlay NYC, a nonprofit that empowers girls through sports, I'm writing again to let you know that the application period for our 2015-2016 SuperSTARS Leadership Academy is now open. The Leadership Academy is a 6 week long, girls-only summer program that combines introductory sports and fitness with college prep, personal and professional development, and fun, educational activities and field trips. This summer program is targeted towards rising 10th and 11th graders (but open to rising 9th-12th) and supplemented through the 2015-2016 academic year with workshops, youth-mentorship and service-learning opportunities. Scholarships are provided for all accepted participants to cover all program costs. The deadline for submission is April 15. I've attached a fact sheet about our org and specifically the camp, along with an application. We'd love it if you'd circulate this to your network/students and please reach out with questions.

Best,

Kate Bancks

Summer Youth applications are available for youth 14-24 years old

Please encourage your child to apply on-line.

DO NOT have your child hand in application to LoMA.LoMA has nothing to do with the SYEP application process or hiring.

Your child MUST have all of the documentation on the checklist if he/she is called for a job. Do not wait until the last minute to obtain your child's social security card, working papers, etc. If students do not have ALL documents to show SYEP, they will not be hired.

Make sure that your child provides a WORKING phone # that they answer and is also voice-mail ready....many students miss out on the jobs because they provided a phone # that isn't working at the time of the call or the automated call could not leave a message.

Keep in mind that a student that fails any class during Fall semester and Spring semester final marking periods will be required to go to summer school to make up those classes, which may interfere with working for the summer.

It's not too late for students to work on passing classes they are failing to prevent going to summer school.

Your child should apply even if you have plans for the summer, just in case plans change, if called, they can always decline....once the application deadline has passed, students will not be able to apply.

Deadline to complete applications online or to hand in paper application to a work-site (locations on application) is Friday April 10th.
